Sigma Delta Tau is a national sorority that is a member of the Panhellenic Conference and was founded in 1917 by seven women: Dora Bloom Turteltaub, Amy Apfel Tishman, Marian Gerber Greenberg, Grace Srenco Grossman, Inez Dane Ross, Regene Freund Cohane and Lenore Rubinow. Sigma Delta Tau has over 100 chapters and over 70,000 initiates.

The official sorority jewel is lapis lazuli and the official flower is the golden tea rose. The Sigma Delta Tau crest consists of a jeweled golden torch with the Greek Letters down the side. The colors are Cafe au Lait and Old Blue.

Philanthropic partners of Sigma Delta Tau include: Prevent Child Abuse America, Jewish Women International, and the Sigma Delta Tau Foundation. Prevent Child Abuse America is a volunteer organization dedicated to the prevention of child abuse. Jewish Women International is committed to ensuring women control their financial futures, build healthy relationships and realize their full potential. The Sigma Delta Tau foundation empowers sisters of Sigma Delta Tau to grow personally and professionally through scholarship opportunities and the funding of Sigma Delta Tau programs.
